Excuses Don’t Build the Life You Say You Want

Excuses Don’t Build the Life You Say You Want

“Our excuses aren’t special. Everyone is busy. Everyone is tired. Everyone has obstacles. The difference isn’t the circumstances—it’s the mindset. Winners find a way; everyone else finds a reason why they can’t.”- Simon Sinek

This hit me hard because it exposes a truth we don’t like to admit:

Most of what’s holding us back isn’t a lack of opportunity—it’s a lack of ownership.

If I say I want growth, impact, influence, or purpose… but I won’t fight for it in my calendar, my habits, or my decisions, then I don’t actually want it. I just like the idea of it.

Leadership—especially purpose-driven leadership—requires resolve.
. Faith requires action.
. Calling requires commitment.

Everyone faces resistance. The question is whether I’ll let resistance refine me or define me.

Next Step::
This week, identify one excuse you’ve been using to delay something you say matters. Replace it with one intentional action—schedule the conversation, write the outline, launch the first step, or say yes to the discomfort.

If you’re serious about growing into the leader you’re called to be, start fighting for what you claim you want.

Purpose Is the Antidote to Drift

Purpose Is the Antidote to Drift

“We drift when we lose sight of why God left us on earth. Our goal is to participate in God’s redemptive plan for the world. If we embrace purpose, we gain power.”
— Ephesians 1:3–12 (paraphrased)

Drift rarely happens because we stop believing. It happens because we stop remembering why we’re here.

Ephesians 1 reminds me that my life is not meant to be random or reactive—I’ve been chosen, redeemed, and positioned on purpose. When I lose sight of that, I drift into busyness, comparison, or comfort. But when I reconnect with God’s purpose, something shifts: clarity replaces confusion, courage replaces hesitation, and power replaces passivity.

Purpose isn’t just inspirational—it’s directional.  And direction is what gives leadership weight.

When we align our lives with God’s redemptive plan—where we are, with what we have—we stop drifting and start moving with intention.

Next Step::
Take 10 minutes this week and ask one simple question:
“How is my current work, leadership, or influence participating in God’s redemptive plan for others?”

Write it down. Share it. Act on it.

If you’re ready to reconnect identity, purpose, and leadership—and move from drift to direction—I’d love to walk that journey with you.

The Obstacle Your Facing Is a Test

The Obstacle Your Facing Is a Test (Content inspired by a recent email from Dan Martell)

Most people miss this: The obstacle isn’t a sign to stop. It’s a test of how badly you want to pursue what you’ve been asking for.

The difference between those who grow and those who quit isn’t talent, money, or connections. It’s what you do when things go sideways.

You will be tested! Plans will break. People will leave! Progress will stall! And in those moments, you have a choice.

Here’s what resilient, faith-driven leaders do differently:

• They default to gratitude — before spiraling into what’s wrong, they anchor to what’s still right.

• They return to their “why” — purpose outlasts pain when it’s deeper than convenience.

• They make it bigger than themselves — because someone is always watching how you respond.

Resilience isn’t built by wishing things were easier. It’s built by deciding—ahead of time—that quitting is not an option.

Your perseverance doesn’t just shape your future. It gives others permission to keep going too as well.

Next Step:

If you’re facing an obstacle right now, pause and ask yourself:

. What is this testing in me—and who could be strengthened by how I respond?

. Then take one step forward anyway. Nothing will happen until you do something.
