The Glass Is Refillable


We spend a lot of time debating whether the glass is half full or half empty. I trend toward “half full”. But perspective alone isn’t the point.


What really matters is this: you can begin again.


Refill the glass.

Refill your energy.

Refill your belief.


Leadership, resilience, and growth don’t come from managing the level—they come from returning to the source. When leaders burn out, lose clarity, or feel stuck, it’s rarely because they lack effort. It’s because they’ve been pouring from something that was never meant to sustain them.


The goal isn’t to pretend you’re full.

The goal is to know where—and how—to be refilled.


When you lead from the right source, you don’t just recover—you renew.

Lao Tzu once said, “When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you.”


In leadership, respect isn’t demanded—it’s demonstrated. And one of the clearest demonstrations we can make is alignment. When who you are, what you value, and how you lead are in sync, you stop chasing validation and start leading with quiet confidence.


Comparison fuels insecurity. Competition for approval leads to performance. But self-alignment creates credibility. People trust leaders who are grounded, not grasping—leaders who know who they are and aren’t trying to be someone else.


The leaders who make the greatest impact aren’t the loudest in the room; they’re the most centered. When you lead from identity instead of ego, respect follows naturally.

Hope That Starts with Identity (From one of my quiet times this week…)

In a world where many are searching for hope, I’m reminded that real hope isn’t built on optimism or positive thinking—it’s built on identity.

“You were chosen according to the purpose of God the Father and were made a holy people by his Spirit.”
— 1 Peter 1:2 (GNT)

Hope is theological, not psychological. It’s rooted in who God is and how He relates to us. Before I ever chose God, He chose me—on purpose. My life is not an accident. My calling is not random. God is actively shaping me by His Spirit for an eternal purpose.

That truth changes everything.
It changes how we lead.
How we decide.
How we endure hardship.

When identity is settled, hope becomes resilient—and leadership becomes grounded.

Bottom line:
My hope is secure because my life is not an accident. God chose me on purpose, is shaping me intentionally, and has called me to an eternal future with Him.

This week, pause and write this truth in one clear place—your journal, a note, a post, or a conversation: “Before I ever chose God, He chose me—and that changes how I live and lead.”

One hidden cost of rushing from one thing to the next is that we lose the space to think.

Hard work matters. Discipline matters. But nonstop motion can quietly trick us into believing that activity equals effectiveness. It doesn’t.

If I never pause, I risk moving fast in the wrong direction. Clarity is rarely found in chaos—it’s found in space. Space to think. Space to reflect. Space to ask better questions.

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is step outside, sit quietly, or slow down long enough to realign with purpose. Then we move again—but this time, on purpose.

When my identity is settled, my leadership stabilizes. I stop striving for approval and start leading with confidence. I stop performing and start living with purpose. Hope isn’t positive thinking—it’s trusting who God is and who He says I am.


Bottom line:

My hope is secure because my life is not an accident. I am chosen, shaped, and called by God for an eternal purpose.

Your Problems Are Preparing You for Eternity (from one of my quiet times this week)..

When life gets hard, positive thinking isn’t enough. What sustains us is hope—the kind rooted in knowing that God is at work, even in the struggle.

1 Peter reminds us that trials are not random or wasted. They are temporary, purposeful, and refining—testing our faith the way fire purifies gold. While pain is real, it is never meaningless. God uses every challenge to strengthen our faith, shape our character, and prepare us for something far greater than the present moment.

When I understand that God is using both joy and hardship to form me for eternity, my perspective changes. I can endure difficulty with confidence, not because it’s easy, but because I know joy is ahead and God is faithful.

Bottom line:
No trial is wasted. God uses every difficulty to prepare us for eternal joy—and that truth gives us hope in every season.

Embrace what makes you, unmistakable you

All, I was recently inspired by Jesse Cole’s book, “Find your Yellow Tux”.  Jesse and his wife own the Savanna Banana’s and he is a unique person who is taking the world by storm with his organization, “Fans First”.

In his book, he reminds me that success/significance isn’t about blending in — it’s about boldly embracing what makes you unmistakably you.

In leadership and in life, we all have what Jesse calls a “yellow tux” — that unique spark, perspective, or passion that sets us apart. When you lean into it, everything changes:

. You build trust and loyalty that can’t be manufactured

. You make a meaningful impact that outlives the moment

Applause is a poor foundation for leadership.

If I’m motivated by approval, I’ll always be distracted by opinions. But when I’m motivated by adding value, my focus shifts—from what people think of me to what they believe about themselves.

John C. Maxwell says it well: “Don’t stay grounded off the applause of people. Stay grounded off what you get to do for people and the value you get to add to them.”

The leaders who make the greatest impact aren’t chasing recognition—they’re committed to service. They show up consistently, even when no one is clapping, because purpose matters more than praise.

True leadership isn’t about being seen. It’s about seeing others—and helping them rise.

 Trust God Even When It Doesn’t Make Sense

Many people ask God to guarantee success before taking the step He’s asking them to take. But that’s not faith—that’s certainty seeking comfort.

Faith requires risk.

Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.” That’s a hard truth, especially in leadership. Forgiveness doesn’t feel logical. Obedience doesn’t always look efficient. And stepping forward against overwhelming odds can feel foolish.

Gideon knew this firsthand. God asked him to face an army of 135,000 with just 300 people—and a strategy that made no sense. Torches. Jars. Trumpets. Yet Gideon obeyed, and God brought victory.

The lesson?
We’ll never see the whole picture—but God does.

In leadership, faith isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about taking the next right step, even when clarity comes later. When we obey, God works. When we trust, He leads.

Bottom line:
Faith means obeying God even when it doesn’t make sense, trusting that He sees what we cannot.
