You Weren’t Meant to Live Someone Else’s Story
"Somewhere, at this very moment, someone appears to be doing better than you. Their progress is faster. Perhaps their business grows more quickly or their career is advancing rapidly... there is always another life that shimmers more than your own.” - James Clear
At any given moment, it can feel like someone else is ahead. Their career seems to be accelerating faster. Their business appears to be thriving. Their life looks more put together, more successful, more effortless.
But comparison is one of the most exhausting and unproductive uses of energy.
You were never meant to live someone else’s story. You were designed with a unique purpose, a unique pace, and a unique path. The goal isn’t to beat their life—the goal is to faithfully and intentionally live yours.
Growth doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it’s quiet, slow, and unseen. But staying focused on your own work, your own development, and your own calling is how real progress is made.
As leaders and people committed to personal growth, we must learn to keep our eyes on our own paper—trusting that our consistency, integrity, and intentional effort will compound over time.
Here are some specific examples in my journey as a leadership coach and intentional growth advocate:
Learning to Build My Coaching Business at My Own Pace
Early in my coaching career, I noticed peers rapidly gaining clients. Instead of trying to mimic them, I’ve learned to stay true to my values—leading with faith, intentional leadership, and personalized growth. This slower, authentic approach is helping me to build a base that deeply resonates with my style, leading to long-term sustainable success rather than short bursts of growth.Developing My Unique Leadership Philosophy
While many leadership experts follow popular trends, I focus on integrating faith and John Maxwell’s leadership and growth principles into my coaching and mentorship. By avoiding the trap of comparison, I have refined my own voice and approach. This authenticity has positioned me as a trusted leader for those seeking intentional, purpose-driven growth rather than quick fixes.Navigating Setbacks with Resilience
When faced with slower-than-expected progress or personal challenges, instead of getting discouraged by others’ faster success, I remind myself that my journey is unique. This mindset is helping me maintain consistency in my coaching and leadership practice, turning setbacks into learning opportunities and strengthening my resolve.Prioritizing Meaningful Relationships Over Networking Numbers
Rather than chasing large follower counts or surface-level connections, I’m focused on cultivating deep, authentic relationships within my community. This approach has led to valuable collaborations, and partnerships that align with my mission and values.
